The quest to develop the finest gun for driven shooting was something of an obsession a century ago. Holland & Holland introduced the first modern ‘Royal’ hammerless ejector onto the market in 1894.
The Holland-patent hand-detachable locks were introduced in 1908. With the addition of the 1922 Holland patent self-opening system, we perfected our ‘best’ gun. We have been building it ever since.
The ‘Royal’ is the quintessential London ‘best’ gun, much copied by other makers but never bettered. The simple lock-work, proven ejectors and faultless self-opening mechanism ensure total reliability and ease of operation in the field.
The ‘Royal’ has been favoured by discerning sportsmen for over a century. Our single-trigger has been an option since 1894 and is time-proven and reliable. The classic choice.

Specifications
Calibres: Available in all common bore sizes.
Action: Holland & Holland patent Self-Opening system sidelock ejector with hand-detachable locks, two triggers and manual or automatic safety.
Barrels: From 25" to 32" (64cm to 81cm) chopper lump, with 2¾" (70mm) chambers, game rib, the chokes bored as specified.
Stock: Selected walnut, polished and oiled finished to the individual’s measurements, with straight hand or semi-pistol grip, finely chequered, an optional gold oval engraved with initials or crest.
Engraving: Traditional ’Royal’ scroll engraving pattern; colour-hardened or bright finish, the gun’s serial number engraved or inlaid in gold.
Gun weights: Weights depend upon the bore and the specification but the following may be helpful as a guide:
12-bore from 6lb 12oz (3.06kg)
16-bore from 6lb 4oz (2.84kg)
20-bore from 5lb 12oz (2.61kg)
28-bore from 5lb 10oz (2.55kg)
