The 3.8L twin-turbocharged V8 in the McLaren P1 delivers an incredible 737 PS (727hp) combined with an in-house electric motor that simultaneously produces 179 PS (177hp) of power, bringing the combined power output to an unbelievable 916 PS (903hp). The car can also be driven independently by the electric motor in ‘e-mode’ which has a range of at least 10km. The main function of the electric motor however is the Instant Power Assist System (IPAS), which provides an instant boost in acceleration and was derived from technology learned through McLaren’s rich Formula 1 history & heritage.
